Red Arrows Club Dinner, Friday 29th November 2019
Monday 2nd December 2019
On Friday evening we were was delighted to welcome Squadron Leader Martin Pert (Red 1) and nine other members of the team back to the Club following their sell-out 2018 Club Dinner.
Martin and the Reds whisked members and guests into their adrenaline filled world, sharing their first-hand accounts of the thrills and spills of life in the world’s premier aerobatic display team.
The team have recently returned from their ground-breaking 11 week summer deployment to North America, which took in iconic landmarks such as Manhattan Island, Fort Worth, the Rocky Mountains, Hollywood, and the Golden Gate Bridge then back home to Lincolnshire via Greenland in mid-October. A phenomenal undertaking for any pilot, this was a mission in single seater, forty-year old Hawks, never intended for transatlantic crossings, and Martin captured the mix of tension and excitement perfectly.
As ambassadors for the UK’s creativity, engineering excellence and innovation, along with their flying prowess, the Arrows also undertake many inspiring ground engagements highlighting the importance of STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) to young people from all backgrounds.
The action-packed evening had us all on the edge of our seats and was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the Club’s year. Our thanks to Sqn Ldr Pert and the team for spending such a memorable evening with us and we wish them well for the 2020 tour.
With thanks to BAE Systems Heritage for the loan of the model Red Arrows Hawk T1 on the evening.
