Q&A with former Chair of the RAF Club, Sue Gray
Friday 28th January 2022
We sat down with Sue Gray, former Chair of the RAF Club for a brief Q&A session. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, Executive Team and staff, we would like to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to Sue for all she has done for the past five years. She served through one of the most challenging periods in the Club’s history and we wish her all the best.
Q1. What are you most proud of during your time as Chair at the Royal Air Force Club?
A1. “Surviving the pandemic. I was worried the Club was on a knife edge, but I am most proud of the way the Board of Trustees, Executive Team, Staff and Members all pulled together, and that we’re still here.”
Q2. As the first female Air Marshal in the Royal Air Force, what advice would you give to your younger self at the beginning of your career?
A2. “Just go for it! I know this is a phrase that is used quite often, but you do not know what you can do until you try so if those around you think that you’re a good fit, then just go for it. All you can do is try your hardest."
Q3 What does the Royal Air Force Club have that makes it such a special place to visit?
A3. “The Club is a home. It has people who understand what a special institution the Royal Air Force is and therefore the Club is an extension of that. It’s about having that understanding that we are here as a family and we are here to support those who need it. Whether it is to celebrate or to commiserate, all of those experiences make this place special."
